About the fellowship

This program trains Physician Assistant (PA) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) to practice safe, evidence-based, high-quality care for patients. Both PAs and NPs fall under the umbrella of Advanced Practice Provider (APP). All APP fellows will have the opportunity to become outstanding clinicians with opportunities for continuous improvement through a quality improvement project or research.

This is an exciting opportunity for new graduate APPs in primary care at Intermountain Health to expand knowledge in primary care (PC) and create a professional support network. This fellowship expands across Intermountain Canyons region which includes all of Utah excluding the Southwest corner (St. George).

Job essentials

This position is accountable for the provision of patient care and other duties as permitted by licensure and defined within Credentialing and Scope of Practice for the Medical Group Consultation and Collaboration Agreement or other similar documentation as appropriate.

Program details

The APP participating in the Primary Care Fellowship will be hired into a primary care clinic position. They will fill the role of the position based on clinic needs. Clinic time will account for 75% of the FTE (full-time equivalent) and the fellowship activities will account for 25%. The APP should expect to complete monthly clinical experience with different specialties as well as ongoing didactic training modules online.

  • Proficiency in the evaluation and management of primary care patients through rigorous didactic and clinical experience and education.
  • Focus on both acute and chronic conditions presented in primary care through clinical and didactic experiences.
  • Develop and promote team-based care that is patient focused. Promote the role of APPs within the primary care arena.
  • Develop referral- based relationships within Intermountain Health.
  • Develop professional connections with other primary care and specialty care APPs within Intermountain Health.
  • Promote effective physician/APP relationships that benefit our patients and improve quality care.
  • Clinical Practice: 75%
  • Full spectrum Primary Care in Internal or Family Medicine.

Applicants selected for employment in the program must:

  • Have graduated from an accredited PA or NP program within the past 18 months
  • PA or APRN and Controlled Substance License in the state of Utah
  • Certification through an appropriate NCCPA or NP certifying organization
  • Federal DEA Certificate II through V
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certification

Please Note: One need not be fully licensed or have completed the certification exam at the time of application; however, selected applicants must obtain all licenses before the start of the program.
