Prenatal care and childbirth education together

CenteringPregnancy brings 10-12 expectant parents and their partners together with a dedicated midwife for combined checkups, childbirth education and community connection. Instead of short prenatal visits, this program offers in depth, two hour prenatal sessions focused on topics important to you.

Families choose group prenatal care because it blends medical checkups, childbirth education, and community support. You’ll see the same midwife team, attend regularly scheduled prenatal sessions, and learn alongside other parents while preparing together for labor, birth, and life with a newborn.

Where you’ll deliver

While your group prenatal sessions occur at the clinic, you will deliver at the hospital.

Southridge Clinic OB/GYN participants will deliver at Riverton Hospital.
LDS Nurse Midwives participants will deliver at LDS Hospital Maternity.
Orem Nurse Midwives and OB/GYN Clinic participants will deliver at Orem Community Hospital Women's Center.
Layton Parkway Clinic Women's Health participants will deliver at Layton Hospital Labor and Delivery.
Birth Center of Denver delivers directly at our clinic in one of our spacious and comfortable birth suites.

Services included in group prenatal care

Group care combines your prenatal visits with childbirth education, let by your midwife team. Each group session includes:

Private prenatal health checkup (“belly check”). Your midwife completes a private physical assessment, reviews labs, and answers personal health questions before the group begins.
Guided self‑monitoring. You’ll learn to measure your own vitals (weight, blood pressure, temperature) with support, helping you build confidence and awareness about your health during pregnancy.
Group childbirth preparation. Guided group learning covers labor and delivery, comfort options, birth plans, pain management, and what to expect in the hospital or birth setting.
Prenatal education and newborn care. Sessions include topics such as body changes, nutrition, exercise, newborn care, safe sleep, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
Mental health and emotional support. Discussions address stress, mood, anxiety, and coping strategies, with resources for additional support as needed.
Parenting and postpartum planning. You’ll explore early parenting skills, partner support, and how to plan for the first weeks at home with your baby.
Postpartum reunion visit. Groups return about 4–6 weeks after birth to share experiences, ask questions, and reconnect with the care team and fellow parents.

What are group prenatal sessions?

Group prenatal sessions replace individual prenatal visits with in depth, two‑hour sessions. Each visit combines a private, one-on-one health check followed by education, and group discussion led by a midwife. You receive the same medical care you would in traditional visits, plus added time for learning and support.

Who can join a group?

A brief intake visit helps confirm that group prenatal care is a good fit for your pregnancy and health needs. Ask your provider or call a participating clinic to find out how you can join an upcoming group.

How do group prenatal sessions work?

Each visit follows a simple structure: you’ll start with self‑monitoring of vitals, then have a private belly check with your midwife. After that, you join a small group for activities and discussion that cover topics like labor, birth, newborn care, breastfeeding, and mental health. There is always plenty of time for questions, sharing and connection with other parents.

Groups start and end on time. Everyone is safe, welcome and included.

Is there an additional cost for joining a group?

No. Group prenatal sessions are billed as your regular prenatal visit. There is no separate fee for joining group prenatal sessions. Your coverage and costs are generally the same as traditional prenatal care; if you have questions, you can call your clinic or insurance plan for details.

How are group prenatal sessions different from traditional childbirth classes?

Traditional childbirth classes are often separate from your medical care. In group prenatal sessions, your childbirth education happens in the same visit as your prenatal checkup. You see the same care team, meet at regular intervals, and build relationships with other parents who share your due‑month group—all while receiving comprehensive prenatal care.
