The Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act (WHCRA) requires most group health plans and insurers to cover breast reconstruction after mastectomy, including reconstruction of the opposite breast for symmetry and treatment of complications such as lymphedema.
Reconstruction may be done at the time of mastectomy or delayed, depending on your medical needs, cancer treatment plan, and personal preferences.
